Electromagnetic Exposition Sector

The preservation of our environment and in particular the protection of the spaces in which live and work, is a subject of increasing attention to all.

The increasing use of electrical and electronic equipment has contributed many benefits to our daily life, but it has also increased the consumption of electricity. Distributing electricity means building transmission lines that, in their path, outdoors or inside civil and industrial buildings, may generate electromagnetic fields whose intensity may not be compatible with the performance of normal human activities. Recent innovations in the field of mobile telephony have brought to light another important aspect: the emissions of the antennas for the “mobile” and in broadcasting are possible due to pollution RF energy. In this sense, the decrees mentioned in points 2 and 3 define the limits governing this matter.

In this period one of the aspects which focus the attention of researchers is the effect that exposure to electromagnetic fields at low and / or high frequency can cause on humans.
These are covered by specific Italia laws and, more specifically:

– Italian law 22nd February 2001, no. 36: “Framework Law on protection from exposure to electric, magnetic and Electromagnetic” published in the Official Gazette of the Italian Republic no. 55 of 7 March 2001.

with regard to limit values listed in the decrees:

– Decree of Chairman of the Board of Ministers 8 July 2003: ” Establishment of exposure limits, attention values and quality objectives for the protection of the population from exposure to electric, magnetic and electromagnetic fields generated at frequencies between 100 kHz and 300 GHz” published in the Official Gazette of the Italian Republic of 28 August 2003, general series n. 199..

– Decree of Chairman of the Board of Ministers 8 July 2003: “Establishment of exposure limits, attention values and quality objectives for the protection of the population from exposure to electric and magnetic fields at mains frequency (50 Hz) generated by power line” published in the Official Gazette of the Italian Republic of 29 August 2003, general series n. 200.

Regarding the exposure of workers, the matter is covered by:

– Decree dated 9 April 2008 n. 81 relative to protection of health and safety in the workplace – Title VIII, Chapter IV “Protection of workers from the risks of exposure to electromagnetic fields”

From the points briefly noted above, it is understood that the legislative framework is clearly defined namely: to check that the operating conditions of a certain area, building or working area are within regulatory and legislative measures.
