Ball Pressure Test for insulating materials

INTEK’s ball pressure test quantifies the thermal stability and mechanical rigidity of polymers, preventing malfunctions in electrical insulators.
Ball Pressure Test for insulating materials

Preventing short circuits in electrical devices requires an objective verification of polymers' mechanical rigidity under thermal stress. The Ball Pressure Test, performed by the INTEK laboratory, addresses this specific requirement by accurately measuring the dimensional stability of insulating materials at high temperatures.

This service ensures that plastic components do not soften enough to allow the displacement of live electrical parts. The laboratory testing fully complies with the strict parameters of the IEC/EN 60695-10-2 standard. INTEK personnel apply a constant mechanical load to the plastic specimen using a steel ball while maintaining the component at a predetermined critical temperature according to regulatory requirements.

The final measurement of the indentation created by the ball irrefutably validates the insulator's ability to withstand actual operating conditions without yielding. Certifying heat resistance through this test ensures compliance with the Low Voltage Directive (LVD) requirements and international safety standards.
