Il settore ATEX è in grado di fornire supporto normativo ed eseguire prove di laboratorio in conformità alle norme armonizzate per la direttiva 2014/34/UE della serie EN 60079 e EN 80079. Inoltre esegue prove in accordo alla serie di norme IEC 60079 per lo schema IECEx.
La camera ha un volume interno di circa 4 m3 e può ospitare apparecchi di dimensioni fino a 1000 x 1000 x 2000 mm con la possibilità di alimentare le apparecchiature in prova con una tensione fino a 800 V in trifase ed una corrente massima di 100 A. Il sistema di controllo e miscelazione dei gas, è stato progettato per realizzare miscele normative con ossigeno e idrogeno, acetilene, etilene, propano o metano. La correttezza delle miscele è confrontata mediante miscele campione tramite un gascromatografo.
